One aspect of the new book that Anne has been interested in are seeds. (yes seeds!)
And as it so happens, at a place called the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens, the New South Wales seed bank is housed there!
There are seeds of some fascinating and endangered species, stored in absolute ideal conditions in huge freezers and refrigerators, tiny seeds in huge incubators, hovered over by botanists waiting for them to shoot. They allowed us to look at some seeds under the microscope – there is a whole new world in there and it is understandable how botanists and the like become totally engrossed in the work that they do.
We will be able to tell you more soon, but as part of that co-operation, Anne has been asked by the Royal Botanic Gardens Foundation to officially open an exhibition of photography by the staff of the Gardens. This is happening this evening in Sydney.
This will be the 6th staff exhibition held in the Red Box Gallery. The exhibition is held annually during the first two weeks in December and it is a way to showcase the hidden talents of the Botanic Gardens Trust Staff, Friends’, staff and volunteers. Themes have included painting, craft, and personal collections, while this year’s theme is photography.
More on Mount Annan and the event next blog.
